Bob Timberlake,  our host will be on hand to speak on the Swan Island Club and the decoys used there. The CDCA membership will be encouraged to bring their own decoys from historic NC hunt clubs for show and tell. Ronnie Wade (SIC guide for 20 years) will also be there to answer any questions about the Swan Island Club.

 

Bob Timberlake is offering to provide us with Lexington BBQ. Please RSVP in order to get a head count for lunch . Richard Childress, renown NASCAR legend and wine maker, http://www.childressvineyards.com/visit/accommodations will offer special rates for members at his hotel and he will offer us private tours of his winery.

2nd Annual Ocracoke Island Waterfowl Festival

The 2nd Annual Ocracoke Island Waterfowl Festival, presented by the Ocracoke Island Decoy Carvers Guild, will be held on Saturday, April 20, in the Ocracoke School gymnasium. In addition to all kinds of decoys on display, the event will have presentations on the art of carving, raffles and food.

Back Bay - Knotts Island Waterfowl Festival

Please join us for the 3rd annual Back Bay & Knotts Island Waterfowl Festival. This event celebrates the rich waterfowl heritage of this area. There will be about 45 vendors set up in the main barn. Buy, sell, and trade of decoys and other waterfowl related antiques and collectables. Wildlife Artist, Call Makers, Decoy Magazine, Ducks Unlimited, and Delta Waterfowl will also be on hand. We've got vendors coming from as far away as Maryland, Delaware, and South Carolina as well as many from Virginia and North Carolina. There will be an artifact room with many old decoys and other artifacts on display. Guest speakers in the artifact room will include Cory Routh from Ruthless Outdoors, Phil Harvey from The Bird Store, and noted southern decoy collector Robbie Smith. CDCA Exhibit and Vintage Decoy Competition

This year’s CDCA Sponsored Exhibit at the Core Sound Decoy Festival will again be located in the library, just inside the main entrance to the show.

Members are invited to include their favorite decoys in the exhibit. The room is secured in the evenings and CDCA members are present in the room throughout the open hours of the show.

Antique/Vintage Decoy Competition

In coordination with the Carver's Guild, our fifth annual Vintage Decoy Competition will he held Saturday, December 1. Entries will be accepted in the library at the CDCA Exhibit until 11:30 AM, when the judging begins. Anyone is eligible to enter and there are no entry fees. You may download an entry form here. Winning decoys from last year's competition are not eligible.

The categories this year are:

Dare County Diver Decoy, Currituck Puddle Duck Decoy, Ocracoke or Portsmouth Island Brant, Mainland Hyde County Decoy, Carteret County Curlew Decoy, Knotts Island Decoy, Back Bay Coot Decoy, NC Canvas Swan Decoy, Core Sound Club Decoy, Core Sound Teal Decoy.

The numbers of entries allowed per person are unlimited, but no more than two entries per category per person. Judging will be based solely on the decision of the judges. Blue Ribbons will be awarded to the top Decoy in each category, and category winners will remain on display for the remainder of the show. Entry in the competition gives the CDCA the right to photograph and publish your entries. Prior Category Winners may not reenter the competition under any newly defined category in which it might qualify for a period of five (5) years.

In addition to the ten individual winners, a Best of Show Winner will be chosen by the judges. Show attendees will also be encouraged to vote for a ''People's Choice''award until 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon, at which time the winner will be announced. All winners will be pictured in Decoy Magazine in the issue following the festival and will be eligible for public display in the CDCA's permanent display case in the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center once the museum reopens in the Spring.
